Diaries of John D.T. McAllister, 1853-1880.

Facsimile copies of 13 diaries kept by John D.T. McAllister between 1853 and 1880. The diaries cover McAllister's mission to England and Ireland from 1853 to 1856; his overland travels back to Utah; his attendance of a Church conference in Pennsylvania in 1861; his experiences on police duty; his commission as marshal of the Utah Territory in 1864; his time as chief engineer of the Salt Lake City Fire Department in the 1870s; his time as recorder at the St. George Temple; and his activities as president of the St. George Stake. The majority of the entries focus on McAllister's family life and community and Church activities. Repeated mentions are made of Brigham Young, John Taylor, and Wilford Woodruff. Also includes newspaper clippings on Mormon events from 1873 to 1880.
